Seattle-area tech veteran Matt Fisher is joining immersive media startup Adventr as a late-stage co-founder to help the company evolve how people use AI to create and interact with games, videos, music, movies and more.
With previous stints at Amazon, Microsoft, Nordstrom, Auth0 and elsewhere, Fisher was most recently co-founder and CTO at Daydream, a startup that raised a $50 million seed round last year to shake up the way people find and buy clothing online.
Fisher left Daydream in October, and set out to find what he wanted to do next in the AI space. He’d already been serving as a technical advisor to Adventr founder and CEO Devo Harris and the two decided it was time for Fisher to come onboard and help build the next evolution of the company.
“We’ve gone all-in on gaming and immersive experiences,” Fisher said. “What we’re building takes the jump from just watching movies, videos, and games to actually stepping inside them. Suddenly, every player or viewer isn’t just along for the ride, they can shape their own version of reality.”
Fisher is especially bullish about how voice will be the dominant method of building content as well as interacting with it, especially in gamified media. Creators can talk to Adventr’s system and tell it what they want, prompting and editing with a suite of tools that is driven by voice. And voice will drive “play” inside that specific piece of content.
The company has already launched Adventr.tv, a streaming platform for console-less gaming.
“We’re strong believers that voice tears down the old walls and flips audiences into creators, opening the door to generative, interactive worlds that feel real,” Fisher said.
Harris is a Grammy award-winning producer and co-founder of G.O.O.D Music, the independent record label founded by his cousin, Kanye West. His early work in interactive video creation included the choose-your-own-adventure music video “Attack of the 5 foot Hipster” by the band Riot In Paris.
While Harris is based in New York, Fisher said he believes deeply in the Seattle area’s talent pool and he plans to hire engineers in the region.
Current Adventr offerings include a variety of assets, games and videos, from “Lab Rat,” a multiplayer interactive movie, to a workout with Megan Thee Stallion, to a Volvo video that lets you control the owners manual, to numerous games.
For Fisher, a realistic future feels like what’s depicted in the sci-fi novels he’s a fan of, such as “Ready Player One.”
“As we evolve into this more AI-centric community and civilization, we want to be immersed,” Fisher said.
