Big Walk is a new co-op-only adventure from the creators of Untitled Goose Game. Chris Livingston has been playing it and he’s having an absolute gas. It’s a loosely structured open world affair starring quaint pointy-nosed folk that you simply have to play with friends.

And I mean that literally: it’s impossible to get very far in Big Walk alone. You can load into the open world on your own, but since all puzzles require a modicum of collaboration, it’s pointless to do so. Unless you just want to take in the scenery.

But does Big Walk have matchmaking that will pair you up with a gaggle of strangers? The answer is no. Big Walk doesn’t have matchmaking. To play Big Walk, you’ll need to make sure in advance that you have friends who want to play it.

To play Big Walk you’ll need to either host a game or join someone else’s game. The latter can be done via a session code shared with you by the host. This is the only way to join up with friends on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

Alternatively, you can join a session via your in-game friends list, which draws from your Steam friends. This will let you jump right in without a code, providing there’s space in the session.

If you’ve been looking forward to Big Walk but none of your friends are interested, that puts you in a rough position. But remember: the internet exists, and for the most part it’s still populated by real breathing people. It could be worth hitting up the Big Walk subreddit where there’s already a dedicated thread for matching up, or the PC Gamer forums.
