Control Resonant should run well on mid-tier PCs, but you’re going to have to clear out some serious SSD space

I’m still not sure what to make of Control Resonant. I liked Control quite a lot but as a shooter, and I feel very ambivalent about the new and very different ARPG-style gameplay in the sequel. Our Morgan Park seemed cautiously optimistic following his preview session in June, but it’s such a fundamental shift in the underlying gameplay that for me, many questions remain.

One question that doesn’t remain any longer, though, is whether I—and you—will be able to run it. With Control Resonant now just a couple weeks out, Remedy has dropped the final PC system requirements, breaking down what you can expect from the game when it launches on September 24.

Across the board, you’ll need 16GB RAM and 120GB of free space on your SSD—you can try rolling with an HDD but that’s going to result in what you call a sub-optimal experience. It’s no secret that this is a bad time to be upgrading pretty much anything, but SSDs are effectively essential these days: If you don’t yet have one, our elite hardware hitters are on top of the best cheap SSD deals you can find today, so give it a look. Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit only if you please, is also required.

Obviously the high-end spec is, well, high, but Control Resonant looks reasonably restrained at the lower end, so aging rigs will hopefully be able to deliver a reasonable experience. The 120GB SSD space is a bit of an eye-popper—that’s triple what the original Control demanded—but three-digit storage requirements are increasingly the norm, so… I refer you once again to our guide to the best cheap SSDs, I guess. Sorry.
