First reported by Automaton, Spanking Exorcist developer Actor made a free “apology game” available to download after missing a planned July 24 release date due to overzealous Steam content moderation. In the simple apology game, you press a button to simulate spanking the developer as punishment.
Spanking Exorcist’s trailer shows a game combining first person exploration, unsettling, sex doll-looking lady characters, and slightly less scary, Sadako-looking forsaken waif lady characters. It strikes me as a perfectly adequate, replacement-level gag horror game for streamers to react to, if a bit more risque than your usual fare.
“I consent,” you say. “I consent,” announces the anonymous Japanese developer, Actor. “Isn’t there someone you forgot to ask?” asserts Valve. The uneven content moderation on Steam became a big story following controversial intervention by payment processors and the persecution of horror game Horses, but it’s always been odd.

I’m fond of the theory that there’s just one particularly zealous prude at Valve who really has it out for horny stuff from Japan. Anyway, you can still buy Furry Hitler (one and two), as well as Alex Jones’ shitty videogame on Steam.
I was pleased to discover that Plantation Simulator was taken down (by its developer’s request, not Valve’s intercession) following negative reporting by Kotaku. Spanking Exorcist is fine by comparison. Harmless. Let my boy spank.

In the interest of journalistic integrity, I followed the Google Drive download link and procured Apology.exe to try it out for myself, ignoring the protests of Google Drive and Windows. Computer, disable safeties, activate indie Japanese gag spanking game. Yes, I know the risks (I’m currently running a system scan as I write this).
There is not much to Apology.exe, just a cartoonish representation of a derriere viewed from overhead and surrounded by Japanese text. There’s a link to Spanking Exorcist’s Steam page, a button to quit out, and a button to make the butt jiggle in tune with a slapping sound effect. It is the slightest of droll diversions you could sample in this beautiful life, but I appreciate the bit.
And the story gets a happy(?) ending too. I’m thrilled to report that Spanking Exorcist proper is available for download on Steam, having released just six days after its initial target date. It’s six bucks usually, $5.39 on a launch sale, and I’m probably not gonna get it.
