The Echoes of Silenced Bells quest in Blood of Dawnwalker is one of the few you receive when you leave Laslea and step out into the big wide world. Though quite far south in the St. Tyna’s Grove region, once you make your way there, you’ll have to help Anca enter St. Tyna’s Convent, where she used to be a nun, and track down books that might arm you with knowledge to defeat the Vrahkir. Here’s how to complete it, plus the impact of each choice at the end.

How to complete Echoes of Silenced Bells in Blood of Dawnwalker

The initial stages of this quest are pretty simple. You meet with Anca, head to St. Tyna’s Convent, encounter a zombified nun—what? Oh yes, all of the nuns at the convent have been mysteriously turned into self-reviving zombies.

The crux of the quest comes after you escape a pack of them and head outside to overlook the convent courtyard. You have to navigate this central compound and find a way to get Anca safely to the library.

Before I explain them, take note: make sure to grab the Saint’s Tibia item from the corpse below the ladder in the west of the area, as this is actually used in another later quest. Otherwise, here are the two approaches you can take:

1. Help Brencis’ soldiers retrieve The Relic of St. Tyna

If you drop off the ledge and go around the left side of the infirmary (that’s the building immediately in front of you with the smoking chimney) you’ll find it’s filled with a bunch of trapped soldiers, who Brencis sent to the monastery to retrieve The Relic of St. Tyna. They’ll offer to give you the key to the corridor that leads to the library, so Anca can safely get there, if you grab the relic for them.

The relic has been moved from the main church to the sacristy, the building on the west side of the courtyard with a little cross on top. You’ll need the Monastery Keys to get inside, but you can find these hanging up in the wooden shed to the right of the building against the wall. Open the sacristy, look at the dead nun’s neck, and take the relic.

At this point, you can go back and return the relic to Brencis’ soldiers if you wish, but you may have noticed it’s an Epic Amulet and might prefer to keep it yourself. If that’s the case, you’ll want to try the second method I outline below instead. Otherwise, exchange the Medallion to get the keys and speak to Anca to go to the library.

2. Use the convent bell to get rid of the soldiers and clear the way

If you go into the house next door and to the left of the sacristy where you grabbed The Relic of St. Tyna above, you can find the Campana Loquitur on the floor, which details the daily routine of the nuns and how it was directed by the church bells. Turns out, even in their zombified state, they still follow this routine.

Use the Monastery Keys to unlock the door directly below the bell tower in the east of the area, just to the right of the main church doors. Climb the stairs and interact with the rope at the top. Now you’ll want to:

  • [ring the infirmary signal]
  • [ring the church signal]

As you might have surmised, ringing the infirmary signal sends all the zombie nuns to the place the soldiers are bunkered down, slaughtering them. After that, send the nuns to the church so you can loot the soldiers and loot all of the buildings and bodies, and then head to Anca, tell her the way is clear, and head to the library.

Should you burn the notes in Blood of the Dawnwalker?

The next steps of the quest are straightforward. You open a way into the convent crypt in search of the forbidden books and fight your way through to a final boss, Leonica, She Who Speaks With the Devil. Upon defeating her, Anca will explain that Leonica was actually trying to cure the nuns (woopsie) and will want to use the notes to finish her work.

Initially you can choose either “This won’t end well” or “Absolutely fucking not”, but it doesn’t matter which, since you’ll then be prompted to make the real decision to burn the notes or let her try to cure the nuns.

  • If you allow her to try and free the cursed nuns, she succeeds, though mentions she had to make some more unholy pacts in the bargain. While this doesn’t have any immediate impact or spell catastrophe for Anca, it will come up again in her questline, and might influence the choice you decide to make in her subsequent Stronger Than Achilles quest.
  • If you burn the notes, she’ll be a little upset, but will recover very quickly. This option also has no immediate impact. The nuns remain zombified in the convent and Anca doesn’t make any more deals with the devil.

Whichever you decide to choose, the next Between the Words quest will still occur, Anca will act the same either way, and neither option will impact you ultimately romancing her or continuing her questline.
