The Witcher 3 was the game that made me realize my college laptop was not going to cut it anymore. It was such a good game, I didn’t terribly mind playing it at 1920×1200, 20-30 fps, but I knew I wanted to do it justice with more horsepower. The summer after my first playthrough, I built a GTX 1080-powered desktop, and I’ve refused to live a life without a gaming desktop in it ever since.
It’s a real testament to the game’s tech and art that it still looks so good, and has taken multiple graphical retrofits so well. I am once again, however, quietly mourning CD Projekt’s decision to trade its proprietary RED engine for Unreal.
