Old School RuneScape players are getting their boats stuck Suez Canal-style thanks to a narrow river in its new island: ‘Helmp mee’

Old School RuneScape’s had a content update this week—Wyrmscraig, an island designed by a player that has a new quest, a repeatable boss, a cool sword, and so on. All the neat little additions you’d expect out of a patch. But some players have been running into an obstacle. Or rather, getting stuck between two obstacles. And by obstacles I mean shorelines.

See, there’s a dungeon called Wyrmscraig Cavern that can be entered by sea via the game’s sailing skill—but the river leading up to it is pretty narrow. And given sailing in OSRS actually simulates the turning time required for steering (in that you need to actually be moving forward to steer your boat), it’s very possible to get stuck.

“My friend got legit stuck in this spot unable to move and then 20+ people gathered around to watch and crack jokes,” writes user Joseei on the game’s subreddit. That same thread is filled with other examples of players getting their sloops wedged between the shorelines while dozens of players jeer from the beach.

Though my favourite is by far the one shown above, where some poor sod writes “helmp mee.” I’ve been there, buddy. Not literally, but spiritually? I’ve been there.

The hilarious thing is, an NPC actually warns players about this possibility. During the island’s questline, Fallen From Grace, an NPC named Cormac warns: “don’t make the same mistake they did. Make sure t’ use something on the smaller side, else you’ll get into trouble on the rocks.”

As a matter of fact, the OSRS wiki page for Wyrmscraig Cavern also notes: “The cave leading to it is too small for a sloop to be navigated here, though a sloop can still be docked via the Summon Boat spell in order to utilise Teleport to Boat.”

That clearly hasn’t stopped these poor individuals from trying, though. And it’s nice to see the first skill OSRS has added in yonks contribute to the game in an aptly hilarious way. There’s just something about Old School RuneScape screenshots that tickles me pink. They’re the perfect vessel for antics.
