We’re some ways out from the release of Resident Evil’s Code: Veronica remake, but that hasn’t stopped me or the other 1,999,999 eager players from wishlisting the game as Capcom celebrates an impressive milestone.
“2 million biscuits for the 2 million of you who’ve wishlisted Resident Evil Veronica, thank you,” an official social media post reads alongside an image of that innocent old lady who definitely isn’t Mother Miranda in disguise, nothing to see here guys.

The hype around Veronica may seem a bit strange at first. Back in the day Code: Veronica sold fewer copies compared to other Resi releases of the time (although that’s probably thanks to the Dreamcast). Even with its positive critical reception at the time, some fans have looked back at its tricky design choices more unfavourably as of late. But I love three things in my life, Resident Evil, Chris, and Claire, so I’m pretty sure I’ll love the remake.

In all seriousness, Code: Veronica’s story, vibes, and locations were all immaculate, and its iffy controls are something I have no doubt the devs will improve, especially considering their track record. Yoshiaki Hirabayashi is producer and Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Anpo are directing the remake, all three of them previously worked on the Resident Evil 2 remake and the Resident Evil 4 remake; two games I was so sure didn’t need remaking.
But somehow they managed to do them justice and make some ingenious changes that really improved my experience. One such example was how the team managed to make Ashley go from the most annoying thing to ever grace my screen to a helpful and likable companion who actually exhibited some personal growth over the course of the Resident Evil 4 remake. For that, I am thankful.
With that kind of expertise on hand it comes as no surprise to me that Resident Evil fans are eager to wishlist Veronica, even with just an announcement trailer to go off.
