Watch On

About two months back, during Warhammer Skulls 10th anniversary showcase, Helldivers 2 revealed that its next Warbond was going to be a crossover with Warhammer 40k.

It was exciting news, especially considering the similarity of the settings, both beset on all sides by endless tides of terrifying aliens and robot men, though at least Super Earth doesn’t have to contend with Chaos… yet.

However, all we got to see of the Warbond was some clips of folks painting minis with the info that the full reveal would come later. Well, as of today, Arrowhead Studios has shown off the contents of the Warbond and given us a release date of August 12.

You can find full details about what’s contained in the Warbond in the following Steam blog post , but the broad strokes are:

  • R/40-K Hot-Shot (a hot-shot las marksman rifle)
  • P/40-K Bolt Pistol (your standard bolt sidearm)
  • 40-K Meltagun Stratagem (a beam-firing anti-armour weapon)

And for grenades and armour:

You may like

  • TG-8 Sharpshooter (Cadian-style Astra Militarum armour)
  • TG-122 Demo Trooper (Kasrkin-style Astra Militarum armour)
  • G/40-K Meltamine (a throwable anti-armour proximity mine)

There was also a load of new vehicle patterns, though these looked a little drab and lackluster to me.

As expected, though, the 40k Warbond is styled around the Imperial Guard instead of the Space Marines, which makes sense since the Astra Militarum are the closest comparable force to the Helldivers, being thrown, as they are, into impossible and frequently suicidal battles

We got a Lasgun with the R/40-K Hot-Shot and a bolt weapon with the P/40-K Bolt Pistol, but I am a little surprised we didn’t get a Bolter or a Heavy bolter. The lack of any Chainsword is also a little disappointing, though melee weapons aren’t exactly common picks in Helldivers 2.

Still, the Warbond is looking decent enough, especially the two iconic armour sets, though it would’ve been nice if it had included a few more weapons or Stratagems.
