- I’ve updated our best Valheim mods list just a week after publishing it.
- Mostly because I’m sick and can’t leave mods alone once I start, but also because I’m obsessed with turning the Meadows into a winter wonderland.
- My latest addition is the Seasons mod (via Hexium) by Shudnal.
- The mod adds spring, summer, fall, and winter changes to Valheim’s biomes.
- It’s customizable, so you can adjust season length, weather types, and more.

Valheim mod list update: Seasons
Valheim’s 1.0 update isn’t even a month old yet, but the modding scene is already filled with tons of impressive fan-made creations for custom worlds. My immediate favorites were quality-of-life mods fixing some of vanilla Valheim’s most grating nuisances, but I’ve slowly tinkered with the more expansive stuff, like the aptly named Seasons mod by Shudnal.
Seasons does exactly what the name implies, adding four distinct and dynamic times of the year to all of Valheim’s typically static biomes. Take the Meadows, for instance. Spring is lush green (as usual) before the summer heat slowly turns some patches of grass yellow. Then there’s fall, which brings more orangey hues to the zone and darker evenings before transitioning into winter—snow-covered treetops and all.
And man, for someone who hates snow so much in real life, I love winter in a survival game. It feels like building a scene for a Christmas card, especially in a game as pretty as Valheim, but it’s just not possible in vanilla until you’re in the mid or endgame. Even then, I don’t like building in the rocky terrain of the Mountains, and the Deep North is pretty, but hazardous. The Gammeltrolls don’t give a damn about how hard I worked on my cabin. They’re shotgun-blasting it with trees, and probably hitting me again with what remains.
More on the Seasons mod and its features
The chance to build in the snow-covered Meadows was my big draw, but there’s way more to Seasons worth mentioning:
- Biome events balanced around each season’s weather
- Seasonal lighting changes (Summer has the brightest nights, winter has the darkest, etc)
- Traders change their wares over time to account for seasonal resource scarcity
- Seasons impact player stats (Extra fire resistance in winter, more stamina in summer)
- Configurable seasonal settings through add-ons like the BepInEx Configuration Manager
