Archaon & Endgame Scenarios Update – YouTube

Watch On

Since the full reveal of Total War: Warhammer’s new Lords of the End Times expansion, the content is coming in thick and fast. Last week, Creative Assembly showed off Neferata, the incoming Free-LC lord, alongside the extremely fun-looking rework for the Vampire Counts. This week we’re getting more information about the new end game crises.

The latest livestream went deep on Archaon’s new Chaos Invasion endgame, Nagash’s Great Ritual of Nagash, and the Skaven’s Vermintide. We got to a rundown of each crisis, saw differently devastated world regions and special devastated battle maps, and even got an introduction to new End Times units.

Most notable for me, though, was the news that The Vermintide endgame features a rat counter that shows how many Skaven you still have left to kill. “You can see an estimated number of rats” says Mitch Heastie, Lead Game Designer on Total War: Warhammer, during the livestream. “It is based on the actual numbers, like roughly.”

The counter on the stream (at 40:37) reads 165,000 RATS, who make up 60 Skaven armies you’ll have to defeat. The Vermintide end game does sound fun, though. You’ll have to destroy Skaven Under-Cities before they blow up your settlements with Doomspheres and quickly recapture territory, as the rat men will keep spawning armies otherwise. There are also new buildings to help deal with the menace, and it sounds like there’s a narrative component, as each defeated army helps you uncover the Skaven’s insidious plot.

By comparison, Nagash’s end game is more focused on the climactic final battle. As the Black Pyramid slowly travels to Nagashizzar, you’ll have to mitigate the Lord of Undeath’s conquests and weaken him as much as possible for that final confrontation. And of course, there’s Archaon’s reworked Chaos Invasion, where you’ll have to defeat his armies and fortresses to weaken his ward save before he destroys too much of the world. Otherwise he’ll be functionally immortal. Easy enough.

I’ve got to say, all of these updates alongside the Lords of the End Times content have me very excited to play on September 24. With the news that anyone who buys one of the expansion lords gets access to Immortal Empires, it’s also going to be one of the best times to start playing Total War: Warhammer as well.
