The new Elden Ring Tarnished Edition has arrived with two new starting classes, the Idus Knight and Heavy Knight, and also new armor sets, some new weapons, and Torrent skins for your trusty steed. You can get one of the new armor sets and weapons straight off by starting the game with either Idus Knight or Heavy Knight, but otherwise here’s where to get the others.

It appears that the Tarnished Edition is also bringing a lot of DLC weapons to the base game, such as Backhand Blades, the Thrusting Shield, and the Great Katana, so I’ll add these as I find them, too.

This armor is worn by the new Idus Knight class and there are two ways to get it. Firstly, you can choose this class at the start of the game to get the armor. This will also get you the Idus Sword weapon.

If you don’t do this, or already have a character, you can purchase the set from the Nomadic Merchant in north Liurnia of the Lakes. This is the merchant on the east side of the ravine that leads to the Ruin Strewn Precipice, north of Bellum Church, southeast from Carian Manor, and west from the Grand Lift of Dectus. You can either get here through Bellum church via the plateau above, or ride to the end of the ravine and turn right up the slope.

You can also find the Idus Sword in southern Liurnia of the Lakes. Simply travel northwest from the Liurnia Lake Shore grace and look for it on a corpse by a tree, location marked above.

If you don’t start new, or want it on a pre-existing character, you can purchase it from the Isolated Merchant at the Isolated Merchant’s Shack in the west of the Weeping Peninsula, south of the Fourth Church or Marika and the Witchbane Ruins, past the walking mausoleum towards the coast.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

You can also buy the Hefty Scimitar from the Nomadic Merchant in the south of East Limgrave, to the northwest of Fort Haight.

Leontiel’s armor set is available in Caelid after you defeat Starscourge Radahn at Caelid Castle on the southeast coast. Once the boss is done, take Torrent and ride north from the Starscourge Radahn grace towards the War-Dead Catacombs. Along the way, at the spot above, Leontiel will invade, and you’ll have to defeat her, which will earn you Leontiel’s armor and her greatsword. Leontiel will also help you as a summon during the Radahn fight, which is a fun addition.

The final set is available in Leyndell, Royal Capital, in the Altus Plateau. You get it by casting the Law of Regression spell on the statue of Radagon, which you do during Brother Corhyn’s questline. You can buy the Law of Regression spell by giving the Golden Order Principia prayerbook to Miriel or Corhyn, found on the upper floor of the arena where you fight the golden shade of Godfrey, First Elden Lord.

What to read next

When you perform the spell at the statue, revealing Marika, you’ll be invaded by Broken Gold Mask. Defeat him to get the Broken Gold Mask headwear, Gold Tattoo arms, legs, and chest, plus the Golden Order Flail. If you’ve already transformed the statue, presumably Broken Gold Mask will just invade when you get to the location marked above. If not, performing the spell again might do it. It’s also worth noting that this invasion won’t occur if Leyndell has transformed into Leyndell, Ashen Capital.

If you can’t remember how to get here, from the Erdtree Sanctuary grace (where you fight the golden shade of Godfrey), head out the door, down the stairs, and go down the lift. Follow the path down the next staircase to the bottom, where you’ll find the statue just ahead of you.

Reverse-Bladed Sword (Backhand Blades)

Yup, as long as you have Tarnished Edition, you can now grab a pair of Backhand Blades without heading into the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion—they’re nice and easy to get as well. You can buy these at the Twin Maiden Husks shop in the Roundtable Hold as soon as you arrive. That means they’re available early on, so you can finally run a Backhand Blades build from the start of the game pretty much.

Ritual Thrusting Shield

Another DLC “weapon” to arrive in the base game with Tarnished Edition is the Ritual Thrusting Shield. This is located in Caelid colloseum, which you can enter behind the giant jar. You may remember, but to access this location, you need to go down to Siofra via the Siofra River Well in the woods in east Limgrave, travel north along the entirety of Siofra, and then use two Stonesword Keys to unlock the lift at the far end.

When you emerge, head west from the Deep Siofra Well and follow the trail, being mindful of the magic golem archers, until you reach the colloseum.

Reed Great Katana

Last but not least, we have a Great Katana type weapon from Shadow of the Erdtree called the Reed Great Katana. You can get this in Dragonbarrow, very close to where Greyoll (the gigantic white dragon who can’t move) hangs out. You’ll want to climb the big mound of white scarlet rot growths to the left of where Greyoll rests his head, then look for the corpse on top with the katana. The mound is almost directly to the north of Fort Faroth, too, in case you’ve killed Greyoll already and can’t find it.
