Show of hands—how many of you know that the payload in Overwatch can heal you? How many of you know how to counter switch? And, now this is crucial, how many of you know not to run out and take on the enemy team all by yourself? I’m going to go ahead and say 100% of everyone reading this, but sadly not everyone can be as savvy as us.

But worry not, one Overwatch player has come up with a plan to help those who don’t have great game sense figure it out, and the answer has been in front of us the whole time: “I thought the Overwatch spawn doors were a big unused billboard that could communicate effectively to players.”

  • You have died x amount of times
  • Interact Key not bound
  • Ultimate held for x amount of minutes
  • You are alone in voice chat
  • Push the payload (it also heals you)
  • Current K/D

Let’s not forget old faithful:

  • It looks like you are being countered by the enemy team. Have you considered switching heroes?

And the best part? It’s actually not a bad idea. Having some visual queues could be a real asset for Overwatch, given how much its grown and changed over the last 10 years. Obviously, if this were to ever grace the game there would need to be an option to turn it off, but I’d certainly be up for a couple of reminders every now and then. I, too, have been guilty of holding my ult for a tad too long.

Just as pogstream says, “A little ego check never hurt anyone”. I couldn’t agree more. Yesterday, I played a competitive match with a Genji who went the full game against a Moira and Zarya without swapping. It didn’t end well for them, needless to say my team could’ve really used one of these spawn door signposts for that match.
