Bethesda is eager to reassure you that its house is not, in fact, on fire in the wake of 3,200 layoffs (1,600 that already happened, 1,600 that are still to come) at Xbox that claimed numerous devs at the studio, including the artist responsible for designing The Elder Scrolls’ khajiit and argonians. Thus, its recent announcement that it currently has Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters in the oven as well as an incoming, Obsidian-made Fallout.
Now, in response to questions from YouTuber MrMattyPlays, Bethesda has said that the layoffs also won’t affect its plans for The Elder Scrolls 6. “The roadmap [for TES6] is unaffected,” said the studio. That’s all you’re getting. No, really.
Bethesda was ever-so-slightly more chatty about its plans for Oblivion Remastered. Yes, Bethesda has plans for Oblivion Remastered. I’m as surprised as you are.

Since a one-two punch of patches the game got shortly after it released last year, the UE5-ified re-do of one of the funniest games ever made seems to have been largely forgotten, despite still having its fair share of performance hitches and bugs. MrMattyPlays also asked if Bethesda planned to remember Oblivion Remastered on other platforms when it gets its Switch release in August. Apparently it does!
“The team working on remasters is focused on the Switch 2 launch,” said Bethesda, but take heart: that version “has optimizations we hope to bring to console/PC.” I also hope that. I had a good time with the Oblivion remaster despite its issues, but I’d quite like to be able to enjoy it, you know, not in spite of anything.
Anyway, Bethesda has said a few times now that it would like to be a bit chattier and more open with fans going forward, and it reiterated that here. It also said its new Glasnost policy isn’t because Xbox boss Asha Sharma is making the studio do it: “Look, we read the internet too,” said the studio.
“All of our fans and plenty of creators have been asking for us to lay out our road map for a long time. As bits of info or announcements come out individually, they get lost in the larger picture of all we’re doing as a studio. So, we felt it was best to do it all at once and paint a clear picture for everyone. This is a shift in our approach to communication that Bethesda Game Studios has been contemplating for some time now.”
I’ll be honest, I can’t say I completely buy that, given the timing of all this, but I suppose I welcome a more communicative Bethesda anyway.
