Co-op RPG Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent brings the board game to PC—and it’s available to play right now

Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent, the tactical RPG based on the 2005 board game Descent: Journeys in the Dark, launched just now during the PC Gaming Show. Literally, I mean it’s live right now on Steam, you can go and download it while you watch the rest of the show.

For anyone not familiar with the board game, it’s a fantasy dungeon crawler where a group of players fight against a dastardly Overlord who controls the enemies and tries to hinder the heroes. Essentially, it’s players versus a mean dungeon master.

This new videogame version tells an original story set one year before the events of Descent: Legends of the Dark, a version of the tabletop game released in 2021. But you don’t need to worry about not knowing the lore or gameplay systems, Terrinoth is turn-based and made to ease new players into the world. You can even choose between playing the full campaign or opting for a shorter story quest that you can complete in a single session.

In the digital version just shown, it looks like there’s a big bad to face off against that takes the place of the once player-led Overlord. You can either go solo or team up with three other players online to kick their arse. There are eight different adventurers for you to choose from, too. Each has their own unique background and combat style, so there’s plenty of replayability on offer.

And it wouldn’t be a dungeon crawler without dungeons. There are 20 of them to crawl through, each with fully voiced storylines, characters to meet, and unique biomes to explore. That’s all paired with turn-based combat that requires you to take note of elevation and sightlines to get the edge in a fight.
