Helldivers 2 is giving players a free car in October, except for those who already earned it in June

One aspect of Helldivers 2 I’ve repeatedly lamented is how many of its new toys are locked away inside Warbonds, with too few new weapons, equipment and stratagems unlockable through regular play. Hence, it’s worth giving Arrowhead credit when they do let you unlock a new toy through spending requisition slips and nothing else. Such is the case with the M-103 Supply FRV, which will become available for all Helldivers to unlock in October.

The Supply FRV is one of three variants of Helldivers 2’s offroad truck. The vanilla FRV is equipped with a mounted machinegun, while the Incinerator FRV swaps that out for a flamethrower. The Supply FRV comes equipped with both an automated turret and a supply rack at the rear of the vehicle, good for eight full restocks of Helldiver ammo and equipment.

The Supply FRV was originally made available as a stratagem to players who participated in June’s “Census Thunder” campaign, which saw players battling hordes of Illuminate ‘Voteless’ spewing from voids opening up across the galaxy. Now though, Arrowhead has decided to roll the vehicle out to all Helldivers 2 players—albeit with a significant delay. In a Steam post, Arrowhead said that players who earned the FRV in June had “enabled the rest of your comrades in arms to access this equipment in October,” adding that “a rising tide of firepower lifts all divers”.

The Supply FRV is the first stratagem reward to derive from Arrowhead’s new galactic campaign system, which replaced the previous system of running objectives in June. Introduced to give players a better chance of taking part in the shooter’s collective objectives, galactic campaigns are part of a much broader overhaul that Arrowhead committed to earlier this year, following growing player dissatisfaction with the live-service shooter.

The second galactic campaign—Lightning Intercept—is currently underway, with players attempting to destroy an Automaton orbital platform. We don’t know what the next campaign will be, but Arrowhead has said that a Warhammer 40,000 themed Warbond will be revealed on July 30, one of the few video game crossovers that I’m actually intrigued by.
