How to get the Feedback Resonator upgrade in Subnautica 2

Crafting the Feedback Resonator upgrade in Subnautica 2 improves your existing Sonic Resonator gadget so that it fires a projectile. Why would you need this? Well, as you may have realised, the Angel Comb in the Alien Ruins has small viral flowers that like to close when you get close.

The only way to destroy them and cleanse the area is by firing from a distance, something your regular Resonator cannot do. To get this upgrade, you’re going to need the Tadpole Depth module, but otherwise you can grab it whenever.

Subnautica 2 Feedback Resonator location

You’ll have to scan two Feedback Resonators in order to get the blueprint, and you can find both of these in the glowing green abyssal pool area with all the Metal Farms. This is about 870 meters, bearing 75ish degrees northeast from the Alien Ruins Research Base. This is at around 450ish meters deep (the upper limit of even the Tadpole Depth Module).

It’s also a tricky area with multiple predators and a leviathan patrolling just above pools, which is why I recommend approaching via my route shown in the video or explained below. While it’ll generally leave you alone, keep an eye on where it is, and if you hear the music that indicates its attention is on you, hide your Tadpole behind the alien structures around the side, or behind the Metal Farms.

Also make sure to bring a Repair Tool and some healing, since you’ll have to leave your Tadpole to grab the scans, and something might take a bite out of you.

Now, to get there, in case you can’t see the video:

  1. Head east from the Alien Ruins Research Base, dropping off the edge and descending until you spot the big purple tube leading to the Angel Comb below the Alien Power Plant—follow this
  2. When you reach the center of the Angel Comb, turn northeast-ish following another purple tube down a ravine, leading around the corner to the area with green-glowing pools and a bunch of pillar-like alien structures around the outside (Metal Farms)
  3. You can find the first Feedback Resonator on the left side edge of the first pool, by a table alongside three stacked barrels
  4. The next one is across at the far end of the pools on a ledge with a platform structure

This area also contains Troilite and the Metal Farm blueprints (from scanning those pillars), plus the Axum Bacterial Culture you need to build one by smashing the material in the pool. It might be worth grabbing those while you’re here, or you can return later.

Once you have the Feedback Resonator upgrade, you can craft it at the Modification Station, so build one of these in your new base if you haven’t already. If you’ve yet to unlock the blueprint, you can get it inside the Alien Ruins Research Base. This will cost you:

Select the Prototype Tool Modification option and the Feedback Resonator. To craft it, you’ll need:

You can find the Conduit Crystals on ledges near that Angel Comb you passed earlier and around the alien structures in the lower depths. Strontium is processed with even more Celestine, while Enameled Glass is just glass with Creature Enamel added to it at the Fabricator.
