How to get the Repair Tool in Subnautica 2

The Repair Tool is one of the most important gadgets in Subnautica 2, which is surprising given you don’t need to fix your tools like in most survival games—all they need are new batteries. However, your vehicles, like the incredible Tadpole, as well as your base, can get damaged. And you don’t want to keep building new ones.

By finding enough Repair Tool fragments, you’ll be able to learn this blueprint and build your own. It doesn’t take that much effort either, as you can find the pieces you need just a short swim from the Lifepod.

To unlock the Repair Tool blueprint, you need to scan three fragments. The good news is that there are more than three possible fragments to find, so you might have scanned one or two already.

As I show in the video above, these are the three Repair Tool fragments I scanned, all of which are close to the Lifepod:

  1. On a desk inside Chap’s base in a small cave roughly 220 meters southeast and 40m deep from the Lifepod, with the entrance at the base of a stone pillar. NOA will send you here early on to collect Chap’s blackbox.
  2. On the sofa inside the shipwreck directly south of the Lifepod, across the deep gap, about 300 meters away. There’s a small entrance on the south side that you can swim through, then go through the hole in the floor to reach the lower level.
  3. On the floor next to the locked door inside the shipwreck about 60 degrees to the northeast of the Lifepod, 380 meters away. You can enter this wreck by swimming underneath it and through the hole in the floor, where you’ll see the Repair Tool on the ground next to a locked door. In the hangar, you’ll also find a Processor, Tadpole, and Bioreactor you can scan.

Once you’ve scanned three fragments, you’ll have unlocked the blueprint and can craft the Repair Tool at a fully functional Fabricator using the following materials:

As you’d imagine, the Repair Tool is mainly used to fix up your vehicles, like the Tadpole. I know from experience that it’s really easy to ding this submarine into rocks and take other unnecessary damage, so I always carry the Repair Tool to patch it up. And that’s not to mention any hostile fish that can attack your pod, which will deal even more damage.

However, the Repair Tool can also be used to unlock certain doors. For example, inside the shipwreck to the northeast of the Lifepod, where I recommend collecting the third fragment, you can break open the doors to grab the Rebreather blueprint.
