Here’s the official advice from PC Gamer this summer: shut your curtains and stay indoors. But it’s not just those new-fangled vidya games you should be playing, as I’ve found 12 Amazon Prime Day board game deals that are well worth your time.

Many of these I’ve played myself, and a few more are sitting on my wishlist right now after many, many recommendations from friends. I know a lot of board game nerds, and they won’t stop banging on about them. Will I finally drop $85 on Star Wars: Rebellion this summer? Probably, for that sort of cash. It beats melting outside, or, y’know, being sociable anyway.

I can also highly recommend Talisman: The Magical Quest game for a mere $31 at Amazon. I paid double that for my copy earlier this year, and can confirm it’s a whole ton of fantasy adventure fun.

I’m also very intrigued by Dead of Winter, a horror-survival adventure that comes recommended by many of my peers. Yours, for $55. But my heart probably belongs to Mansions of Madness, an astonishingly replayable, re-configurable Lovecraftian horror tabletop adventure that will swallow entire weekends within its slimy tendrils. Ask me how I know. It’s down to $92, and my goodness do you get a lot of board game for your cash.

Whichever you pick, you’ll be beating the summer heat and enjoying a lovely argument (sorry, rules debate) with your loved ones instead. Two birds with one stone, I reckon.
