Yet Another Zombie Defense HD, which is its real name, is free on Steam for a limited time

The era when it seemed like every second game was about zombies and the one where I played a lot of Flash games because they were free had a lot of overlap. Which is why I have fond memories of the hours I lost playing games like The Last Stand and Rebuild 2. I’ve just had a flashback to that time thanks to Yet Another Zombie Defense HD, which has had its price temporarily dropped by 100%.

It’s a twin-stick shooter where you spend the nights shooting zombies and the days building defenses, erecting barricades and saving up to buy a turret and then realizing you also need to buy a gun to mount on top of that turret. There’s local and online multiplayer, a bunch of weapons and traps to unlock and modes to play, and it sure does have the look and feel of an indie game from a bygone age—even if it was only released in 2017.

It’s got a Steam Workshop too, where you can download skins to make your survivor look like Hatsune Miku, Garfield, Deadpool, or Shrek. Never change, Steam Workshop.

Yet Another Zombie Defense is available for free to promote the upcoming release of Yet Another Zombie Survivors, which is a bullet heaven game with the same aesthetic and an escalating horde that builds to giant werewolves, mummies, and other B-movie baddies. It’s currently available in early access, and is scheduled to hit 1.0 on August 20.

I’m not big on the survivors-like genre, but I do like to turn my brain off and headshot zombies, which is why I was happy to snag Yet Another Zombie Defense on Steam where it’s currently free until July 30.
