Working out how to eavesdrop in Crimson Desert during the Bared Fang quest actually used to be even worse than it is now. Like many elements of the game, it was patched post-launch, but even then, it’s not the clearest mechanic. You’ll also have to give a bunch of answers to a guard in yet another example of the game’s rickety-ass social minigame.

First, I’ll explain how to eavesdrop, since you’ll have to do this periodically between speaking with the guard. I’ll also give you the responses you have to give to the guard after you eavesdrop on each new conversation. Either way, this step-by-step should allow you to complete the Bared Fang quest so you can progress the Chapter 7 storyline.

How to eavesdrop and all Bared Fang answers in Crimson Desert

After you arrive in Beighen at the start of Chapter 7, the Bared Fang quest will require you to eavesdrop on multiple conversations, interspersed with trying to convince a Blue Fang guard to let you inside their secret hideout so you can speak with their leader. Here’s how to eavesdrop, plus the steps you need to complete the quest:

The first quest marker points you to a couple of villagers speaking in a hut in the lumberyard by the river. To eavesdrop, go around the back of the hut, so the wooden wall is directly between you and the villagers, and then approach the wall so that the “Eavesdrop” prompt appears in the bottom right of the screen, CTRL on keyboard (LB on controller).

Press this and you’ll lean against the wall and begin listening to their conversation. A “learning” progress bar will also start to build in the top left as you acquire the info.

2. Speak to the guard the first time

After you’ve listened to the conversation, you’ll get the objective to “Find a way to make contact with the secret organization,” plus a map marker for a guard you can speak to. The responses you need to select for him are as follows:

  1. Select the question “The Truth of the Underground Storage”
  2. Press R (or A on controller) to lie and select the evidence, “Secret Society’s Base”
  3. Select the question “Mysterious Faction Within Beighen”
  4. Press R (or A on controller) to lie, but no matter which faction you choose, he’ll tell you he has nothing more to say, so exit the conversation

3. Find a clue about the mysterious faction

After you leave the conversation with the guard, you’ll have a new objective directing you to eavesdrop on another pair of villagers in conversation. Head for the map marker, go inside the building with the merchant and the anvil out front, then go to the far right corner, where the eavesdrop prompt will appear by a wooden pillar—the villagers are on the other side of the wall. Eavesdrop on them and then head back to the Blue Fang guard.

4. Speak to the guard a second time

Upon returning to the guard, you’ll have to select some more conversation options. The correct order is:

  1. Select the question “Mysterious Faction Within Beighen”
  2. Press R (or A on controller) to lie and select the evidence “Blue Fangs”
  3. Select the question “Leader of the Blue Fangs” but upon choosing “Jian” (the only option), the guard will once again cut you off—don’t worry, this is supposed to happen

5. Find a clue about the leader of the Blue Fangs

As before, upon exiting the conversation, you’ll have a new objective to eavesdrop on one final conversation. Go to the map marker by the nearby lumber yard and head around the back of the building to the corner between the pile of wood on the left and the bunch of crates on the right—the two women conversing are on the other side of it. Approaching the wall, you should get an eavesdrop control prompt.

6. Speak to the guard a third and final time

Having listened to the final conversation, head back to the guard and select the following options:

  1. Select the question “Leader of the Blue Fangs” again
  2. Press R (or A on controller) to lie and choose the “Torstein” option as evidence

With that, you’ll be given access to the secret hideout and, thank god, that’s the end of the Bared Fang quest.
