How to get Troilite in Subnautica 2

Acquiring Troilite in Subnautica 2 is important if you want to make Mangalloy Ingots, but unlike Atacamite, this material is much rarer, and there actually seems to be a rather limited amount. Many players have complained about soft-locking themselves after they processed all available Troilite into Mangalloy Ingots and were unable to get any more.

This is because even Metal Farms, devices that produce a metal of your choice, require you to insert one of said metal into them first. So, whatever you do, keep one Troilite for use in any future Metal Farm, since you’re going to need a lot of it later to repair the Alien Power Plant and progress the story.

Subnautica 2 Troilite location

You can find Troilite in the glowing green pool area surrounded by the Metal Farms to the northeast of the Alien Ruins Research Base, bearing around 75 degrees on the compass, about 870 meters distant. It’s really deep down, like 450 meters, which is the threshold for your Tadpole even with the Depth Module equipped.

This area is also patrolled by a leviathan and other predators, so bring a Repair Tool for your Tadpole and some healing.

The route is shown in the video above, but in case you can’t see it:

  1. Head east from the Alien Ruins Research Base, dropping off the edge and descending until you spot the big purple tube, then follow this towards the Angel Comb under the Alien Power Plant
  2. From the Angel Comb, go northeast-ish following another purple tube down a ravine, until you reach an area with green-glowing pools and a bunch of pillar-like alien structures around the outside (Metal Farms)

You can find Troilite—though it will be called “Mineralized Clinker” when you examine it—around this area. It almost resembles green algae stuck to a rock. This location also contains the Metal Farm blueprint (if you scan the pillars) as well as the Feedback Resonator, and the Axum Bacterial Culture, which are all worth grabbing if you have time.

Troilite is quite rare and there seems to be a limited amount, which isn’t ideal when you need ten of them later to craft Mangalloy Ingots to fix the Alien Power Plant. As mentioned, I recommend you keep at least one Troilite so you can place it in a Metal Farm to produce more.

This way you definitely won’t run out or have to wait for the ore resource nodes to respawn, which it’s currently unclear if they do.
