WoW Classic player hits 60 on hardcore self-found with every class, decides that isn’t enough, does a naked run for good measure

No matter how good at questing in World of Warcraft Classic you think you are, I’m pretty sure we’ve found someone better—a singularly determined madlad has hit level 60 on every single class in the game’s hardcore self-found mode.

For the uninitiated, that means that they’ve gotten to level 60 without dying and without any outside help, as self-found players can’t trade with anybody, send or receive mail, or use the auction house. Essentially, any gear or materials have to be found or plucked from the earth with your own bare hands.

But user Foxdog175 on the r/classicwow subreddit has done it. As a matter of fact, they’ve done it 11 times (thanks, WoWHead): “If I’m being brutally honest, only three of my toons should have made it to 60. I’ve had razor-close calls on just about every class to 60,” they write.

For instance, their Warlock nearly died in the ocean to Stranglethorn Vale boat captains on a HP so low they couldn’t see their health bar, their rogue barely survived a disconnect in Tanaris, and their paladin was saved from a pack of bloodthirsty elites by an aggro reset bug.

This is my favourite anecdote, though: “On my paladin, I told a hunter I was with in Searing Gorge that we could jump down the hole as long as I BoP’d him, to quest in the caves below. Before I could even say ‘GO’, he immediately jumped. I jumped in after him, got the BoP off mid-air, and was able to bubble myself milliseconds before I hit the ground.” I think we should all aspire to this level of heroism in our day-to-day lives.

Foxdog achieved this feat by seemingly following the adage ‘slow is smooth, smooth is fast’—for example, they start their characters off by levelling in two 1-4 starter zones, hoofing it on foot to another race’s spawning area: “This step sounds silly to some; it’s not. Every level you gain on mobs compounds from the first level. Remember, every level you are above a mob, you gain hit, crit, and dodge and they lose that amount on their end.”

And, hey, you can’t argue with the results—Foxdog hasn’t just levelled every class to 60, but has done a naked fire mage run as well: “Naked fire mage had a TON of close calls. Near-deaths in Ashenvale aoe’ing furbolgs with another mage, in Southern Arathi under water getting netted and beaten on near the boat quests while collecting those crystals (was saved by my group member who just happened to be close enough to get to me in time).

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

“Had an elite rock-giant beating on me when I ported down in Azshara using the NPC teleport, had a near-death helping a warrior kill furbolgs in Northern Felwood when the denwatcher called about half a dozen other furbolgs at low hp. Warrior bailed and I was on my own. Barely escaped. Naked fire mage was a damn cat with nine lives.”

Godspeed to everyone attempting this challenge, whether via a completionist, all-classes route or by doing it on a DDR mat. That annoying minimap orb in retail (that I hate) doesn’t seem anywhere near as bad, now.
